Grumpy Publications goes to Africa!
Our great friends Jared Habel and his family recently travel to Africa with Grumpy Publications books! The school kids loved the books Thal Dixon had donated. Just as we do here in the US, every child got a book! School is different in Africa, some students get to school as early as 5:30am. School goes from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday. It has to end so early to get everyone home before dark. They drive 750 kilometers a day picking up all the students. They are using computers from the dinosaur age, no lie they still have floppy disk drives in Africa! They only have grades preschool to 5th grade. The classes are small and the kids are so well behaved. They literally cry when they have to go on holiday. They want to be at school. The education they receive is Christian-based and students move at their own pace.
The library is small, but the books are cherished! We are honored to have our Grumpy Publications books in Africa!
Grumpy Publications works with Literacy in the Hood from Cleveland.
Literacy in the H.O.O.D. (Helping Out Our Disenfranchised) is a non-profit located in Cleveland, OH dedicated to helping build a culture of reading in Cleveland’s low-income neighborhoods. Founded in 2017 by Chrishawndra Matthews due to her struggle to find adequate reading and language programs for her then 3-year-old son Derrick prompted her to start Literacy In The H.O.O.D. To date Literacy In The H.O.O.D has distributed over 600,000 books to those in need. On July 3rd, 2022, Author Thal Dixon from Grumpy Publications donated 2000 books and made a special trip out to Cleveland to join forces with Literacy in the H.O.O.D to visit with and inspire future authors and dreamers.
Grumpy Publications Brings Holiday Cheer at “Best Seat in the House” Event
Grumpy Publications is excited to announce that Thal Dixon has teamed up with Santa and Mrs. Clause to spread joy this holiday season at the annual Best Seat in the House event. This heartwarming initiative delivered books to underprivileged children, sparking smiles and igniting imaginations.
At the event, children were treated not only to a selection of engaging reads but also to the festive magic brought by Santa and Mrs. Clause. “Seeing the children’s faces light up was incredibly rewarding. Their smiles were well deserved,” said Thal Dixon. This partnership highlights Grumpy Publications’ commitment to community outreach and the belief that every child deserves the gift of reading.
Moose Management Launches Patrick C. Moose Mascot to Spotlight Park City Vacation Rentals
